Assessment Process

Understanding what to expect during your psychometric assessment

Process Overview

A comprehensive psychometric assessment typically involves 2-3 assessment sessions, followed by a feedback session and written report. The entire process is designed to be thorough, comfortable, and informative, providing you with valuable insights to support decision-making and planning.

Every assessment is tailored to address specific referral questions and individual needs. I use standardized, validated assessment tools and follow ethical guidelines to ensure fair, accurate, and useful results.

Step-by-Step Process

1

Initial Consultation

The assessment process begins with an initial consultation to understand your needs, discuss the referral question, and plan the assessment approach. This consultation typically lasts 45-60 minutes and may be conducted in person or via telephone.

  • Discussion of concerns, questions, and assessment goals
  • Review of relevant background information and history
  • Explanation of the assessment process and what to expect
  • Discussion of fees, scheduling, and timeline
  • Opportunity for you to ask questions and address concerns
2

Assessment Sessions

Assessment sessions involve completing standardized assessment tools designed to measure cognitive functioning, personality, career interests, emotional functioning, or other relevant domains. The number and length of sessions depend on the type of assessment and your individual needs.

Typical session duration: 1.5 to 3 hours per session

Total sessions: Usually 2-3 sessions

  • Standardized assessment administration (paper-and-pencil or computer-based)
  • Questionnaires and checklists
  • Interactive activities and problem-solving tasks
  • Breaks as needed (especially important for children)
  • Flexible pacing based on your individual needs and comfort level
3

Scoring and Interpretation

After assessment sessions are complete, I score all standardized measures according to established protocols and interpret results within the context of background information, behavioral observations, and referral questions.

Timeline: Report completed within 1 week of final assessment session

  • Professional scoring of all assessment measures
  • Integration of multiple sources of information
  • Contextual interpretation of results
  • Comprehensive report preparation with specific recommendations
4

Feedback Session

A feedback session is scheduled to discuss assessment findings in a clear, accessible manner. You will receive your comprehensive written report and have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss findings, and review recommendations.

Session duration: 45-60 minutes

Timing: Scheduled within 1 week of report completion

  • Clear explanation of assessment findings in everyday language
  • Discussion of identified strengths and areas for support
  • Review of specific, practical recommendations
  • Q&A and opportunities for clarification
  • Planning for next steps and implementation of recommendations
5

Written Report

You will receive a comprehensive written report documenting all aspects of the assessment. Reports are written in clear, accessible language while maintaining professional standards and including all relevant technical information.

  • Background information and referral question
  • Description of assessment procedures and measures used
  • Detailed assessment findings and interpretations
  • Summary of results in context
  • Specific, actionable recommendations tailored to your needs
  • Resources and referrals when appropriate

Assessment Environment

Physical Space

Assessments are conducted in a private, quiet, and comfortable office setting. The environment is designed to minimize distractions and help you feel at ease. For children, the space is age-appropriate and welcoming.

Atmosphere

I aim to create a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere where you feel comfortable doing your best. There are no "pass" or "fail" results—assessments simply provide information about your current functioning and strengths.

Breaks and Pacing

Assessments can be mentally demanding. Regular breaks are offered, and you are encouraged to let me know if you need a moment to stretch, use the restroom, or have a snack. Children particularly benefit from movement breaks.

Your Comfort

If you have any concerns about the assessment process or need specific accommodations (temperature, lighting, seating, etc.), please let me know. Your comfort is important for obtaining accurate results.

Report Delivery and Follow-Up

What's Included in Your Report

Your comprehensive written report includes all relevant information from the assessment process, written in clear language while maintaining professional standards.

  • Background information and reason for assessment
  • Description of assessment measures and procedures
  • Detailed findings and interpretations
  • Summary of strengths and areas for support
  • Specific, actionable recommendations
  • Resources and referrals when appropriate

Feedback Session

The feedback session is an interactive meeting where we review the assessment findings together. This is an opportunity to ask questions, discuss the results, and ensure you fully understand the findings and recommendations.

  • Clear explanation of findings in everyday language
  • Opportunity to ask questions and discuss concerns
  • Review of recommendations and next steps
  • Planning for implementing recommendations

Ongoing Support

Following the feedback session, I am available to answer additional questions or clarify findings. If referrals to other professionals are indicated, I can provide guidance and recommendations. My goal is to ensure you have the information and support needed to move forward effectively.

Important: Assessment Services Only

As a registered psychometrist, I provide assessment and evaluation services only. I do not provide therapy, counseling, or psychological treatment.

My role is to conduct thorough, objective assessments that provide valuable insights and recommendations. If your assessment indicates that therapeutic intervention would be beneficial, I will provide appropriate referrals to registered psychologists or other qualified mental health professionals who can provide those services.

This focused approach ensures that assessment findings remain objective and that you receive the most appropriate specialized support for your specific needs.
